Our Story

The Beer Growler was the first growler store in the state of Georgia. (A growler is a half-gallon jug commonly sold at breweries and brewpubs as a means to sell draft beer to-go.) In 2010 Denny Young was researching opening a growler centric market and learned growler sales were not legal in Georgia. Georgia law states it is illegal to repackage alcohol. While talking to the Department of Revenue, a loophole was found; if Georgia would start to consider a growler an "original consumer package" filling a growler would be legal, and that is just what happened! Two months later the first Beer Growler store was opened in Athens with the second store opening in Avondale Estates 9 months later. Now, The Beer Growler has stores in Georgia and North Carolina.
